Be prepared for mold.

If you’ve not yet got your own wine cellar and are considering having a custom one built for your home, then be sure to install a vapor barrier and insulation. A vapor barrier stops moisture from making its way in through the walls and will prevent condensation from forming. Meanwhile, insulation will help to maintain the temperature in your cellar and prevent mold from forming inside your walls.

Effectively clean up the mold.

Black mold typically starts growing within 24 to 48 hours of dampness occurring. As such, it’s easy for it to start taking over your wine cellar without you even realizing it. As soon as you do become aware of mold, you should act quickly to tackle it. Fungus growth in the home can result in unpleasant respiratory conditions, such as asthma.

Reduce the humidity.

As a general rule, the humidity in your wine cellar shouldn’t fall below 50% or exceed 70%. When the humidity drops below 50%, it increases the likelihood of the cork becoming damaged and your wine being lost. Whereas, when the humidity is too high, condensation will appear on your wine bottles, the labels will be ruined, and mold will grow. To ensure that the humidity stays within the ideal range, invest in a (custom-designed Heritage Vine Cooling system) to collect excess moisture from your wine cellar and to reduce the chance of mold ruining your supply of fine wines.

It’s common for damp and mold to find their way into your wine cellar, but when you choose a custom-built wine cellar and follow these steps, you can be sure that you’re storing your wine in the best place.
